Our story, our mission

At Dotty's Pharm we share a passion for the power of the hive - nature's original pharmacy. We are a family run mission, aiming to raise awareness of the power of oral tolerance (big pharma hates this one trick!).

 

Dotty's Pharm was founded by Dr Robert Smith, a second-generation GP and beekeeper. Inspired by the annual suffering of family, friends and his patients he set out on a mission; founding Dotty's Pharm, named for his first daughter, with a mission to raise awareness of oral tolerance, reduce our reliance on antihistamines and improve seasonal wellbeing for all. 

 

He set about with a vision and got to work designing a product that was completely natural, buzzing with health benefits and backed by science.  Using only pollen collected from the hives and using honey straight from the apiary, all bound with a touch of organic agave nectar; in summer 2025 the first ever bottle of Dotty's Pharm pollen and honey suspension was born - and the rest is history.

 

This was far from a one-man mission however! The conception of Dotty's Pharm pollen and honey suspension would never have been possible without the advice and inspiration from my father: Dr David Smith 'Dad'. A first generation GP and Beekeeper, I grew up keeping bees under his watchful guidance and learnt everything I know about beekeeping from him. When I was in my teens, I watched as Dad would carefully pick pollen from the hive, collecting it in a jar. Intrigued, I would ask what this was all about. Dad was making small-batches of pollen-enriched honey in jars for some of his worst-suffering patients and my Mother. She had always suffered terribly with hay-fever, taking antihistamines religiously as soon as spring arrived. Well, the effects were astonishing. I can recall how Mum's hay-fever seemingly resolved during one summer and to this day it has never been the same!

 

This experience had a profound impact and is the moment that inspired the creation of Dotty's Pharm today. Motivated by the abolishment of suffering I witnessed in Mum and now informed by my own medical experience, our dream is now to raise awareness of the powerful mechanisms of oral tolerance and provide accessibility for all. So join us on this journey, throw away those antihistamines, you won't be needing them for much longer!

​I am still guided by my father today, always on hand for both medical and beekeeping advice! Without being able to bounce ideas off him now or have that initial spark of inspiration none of this would be possible today.
